Atsigani is a music project by the artist Chesko Gonzalez who is tracing back his gypsy roots through rhythms, melody and poetry.
The word Atsigani was first mentioned in Europe in the 9th century when, it is said, the Byzantine emperor relied on gypsy magic to restrain an uprising in the empire. This name carries a message of long history and strong cultural influences on many parts of Europe which remain partially, if not greatly invisible to this day.
The album Diaspora is a journey around the world from East to West, ending in Chesko’s homeland- Spain. It fuses the artist’s Andalusian roots with Oriental gypsy influences and has been recorded in a home studio under the name of The Invisible Syndicate in Berlin, 2017.
“My aim is to bring together all the colours of my roots and to give the world a taste of what diversity is capable of creating.”- Chesko Gonzalez
